CHAI’s Health Systems Strengthening team works with governments to build stronger, more resilient and more equitable health systems. In Malawi, the programme supports the Ministry of Health in operationalizing the Health Sector Strategic Plan III through strategic work on health financing and workforce development.

The Associate, Integrated Health Systems will work closely with the Government of Malawi to support the transition toward integrated, sustainable and government-led health systems. The role contributes to planning, financing, workforce reform, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization and day-to-day implementation under CHAI’s Health Systems Strengthening Cluster.

Job summary

CHAI is hiring an Associate in Lilongwe to support integrated and sustainable health systems in Malawi, including health planning, financing, workforce transition and government collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a roadmap for transitioning and integrating HIV service delivery roles into sustainable, government-recognized positions.
  • Support the Medical Council of Malawi and relevant Ministry of Health units to absorb disease-specific roles into integrated cadre structures.
  • Engage training institutions, regulatory bodies and Ministry directorates to align pre-service and in-service training curricula.
  • Provide technical assistance to strengthen and institutionalize the Ministry of Health’s multi-year “One Plan, One Budget, One Report” reform.
  • Support use of the revised “One Plan” for Global Fund applications and other resource mobilization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and sector platforms to promote allocation of external and domestic resources toward identified priorities.
  • Build strategic relationships and facilitate meetings with government, donors and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate workplans, budgets, reporting, logistics and day-to-day implementation across CHAI Malawi clusters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, health economics, health systems, public health, health sciences, public policy, or a similar subject
  • master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in health systems strengthening, health financing, health economics, health workforce, public health, public policy, public sector finance, consulting, or related work.
  • Knowledge and experience in health systems, health financing and/or health workforce, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Outstanding analytical skills and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with government partners, donors and stakeholders in high-pressure and changing environments.
  • Experience supporting governments and donors on health policy, financing or workforce decisions is an advantage.
