Job summary

Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) is hiring a Director, Child Protection & Economic Empowerment in Lilongwe, Malawi on a two-year fixed-term contract. The role leads strategy and delivery across CIFF Africa's Girl Capital portfolio, with a focus on child protection, economic empowerment, and Malawi's Ending Child Marriage investment. Responsibilities

  • - Lead CIFF's strategic direction at the intersection of child protection and economic empowerment in Malawi.
  • - Drive quality execution of the Ending Child Marriage portfolio and ensure strategic alignment of Malawi investments.
  • - Build and manage a pipeline of innovative, evidence-based investments that support girls' agency and long-term outcomes.
  • - Develop and maintain senior relationships with government, co-funders, regional bodies, and implementation partners.
  • - Oversee programme performance, risk management, monitoring and evaluation, and timely delivery of key outputs.
  • - Mentor managers and analysts and contribute to CIFF Africa leadership, planning, and field-building efforts.

Requirements

  • - Recognised subject-matter expertise in economic empowerment, livelihoods, or child protection, ideally with substantial Malawi experience.
  • - Strong knowledge of the African context and the use of cost-benefit and ROI methodologies in strategy and business planning.
  • - Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable small- to medium-sized professional teams.
  • - Strong analytical, influencing, and partnership-building skills with experience working across government, funders, and civil society.
  • - Experience identifying and delivering business process improvements and managing complex programmes or investment portfolios.
  • - High financial literacy and strong written and verbal communication skills.
