CHAI - Clinton Health Access Initiative is recruiting for Associate, Health System Efficiencies in Lilongwe. Job summary

Associate, Health System Efficiencies Country Malawi Type Full Time Program (Division) Health Systems Strengthening - Health Financing Additional Location Description Flexible to be based in a CHAI Country Office in Africa pending country leadership approval and the ability to obtain work authorisation.

Responsibilities

  • Country-Level Analytical Support
  • The primary responsibility of this position is to provide surge analytical support to CHAI country teams during critical periods, with extended travel to program countries as needed to support time-sensitive deliverables and government engagements.
  • Analytical support may include conducting gap analyses, costings, scenario modeling for intervention prioritization, and other efficiency analyses required to support ODA (Official Development Assistance) negotiations, Global Fund applications, and other high-priority financing opportunities.
  • Developing analytical tools, templates, and materials (e.g., Excel models, PowerPoint presentations, briefing notes) to support decision-making on resource allocation and program finance.
  • Working directly with CHAI country teams to support government counterparts to translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
  • Together with country focal points, support centralized monitoring efforts by collecting and consolidating country-level progress updates on a regular basis, identifying emerging challenges or areas requiring additional support.
  • Support country-level data collection where needed for program tracking and dissemination of findings.
  • Assist in maintaining tracking for key deliverables, milestones, and metrics across countries.
  • Support day-to-day project management functions, including tracking deliverables, maintaining work plans, coordinating meetings, and ensuring alignment across country teams.
  • As needed, contribute to preparation of donor reports, program updates, and other reporting requirements in coordination with grant management functions.
  • Help document lessons learned, success stories, and impact data from country-level work to strengthen CHAI's knowledge base and external communications.
  • Knowledge Management & Learning
  • Synthesize insights and lessons from countries into clear summaries and actionable takeaways for broader team use.
  • Maintain shared repositories and support the documentation and dissemination of tools, templates, methodologies, case studies, and best practices emerging from country-level work. Contribute to cross-country learning calls and working groups by sharing experiences and facilitating peer-to-peer exchange.
  • Support preparation of materials for internal and external meetings, including agendas, briefing materials, presentations, and follow-up action items.

Requirements

  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, economics, public policy, international development, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in global health, health systems strengthening, international development, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent ability to work in Excel for modeling, data analysis, and scenario planning.
  • Experience developing high-quality presentations and written materials for diverse audiences, with strong proficiency in PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work effectively across cultures and build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (up to 50% of time) and spend extended periods (e.g., several weeks) in program countries, often with limited advance notice.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments that require adaptability, problem-solving, and independent initiative.
  • Professional proficiency in English
  • proficiency in French or other languages used in CHAI program countries is an advantage.
  • Advantages:
  • Master's degree in public health, health economics, public policy, or related field.
  • Prior experience working in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa or Asia.
  • Familiarity with health financing concepts, donor funding mechanisms (e.g., Global Fund, PEPFAR, USAID), or government budgeting processes.
  • Experience supporting proposal development, grant applications, or donor engagement.
  • Prior experience working with government counterparts or in embedded technical assistance roles.
